Once you accept a solar quote, several steps happen before the system begins powering your home. The installer confirms the design, manages relevant applications, schedules the work and prepares the equipment. Installation day is only one part of the process.

The final design should be confirmed before installation
Your installer should review the property, electricity use, roof, switchboard and meter before finalising the design. The proposal should identify the panel layout, inverter, expected capacity, monitoring and any battery or backup equipment.
It should also explain known electrical work, exclusions, possible variations and warranty responsibilities. If roof conditions or access have not been properly assessed, installation day may reveal changes that should have been discussed earlier.
Grid applications and approvals happen before or around the work
Connection and export requirements vary by electricity network and system design. We’ll explain which applications are required, who submits them and whether approval affects the installation date or export arrangement.
Meter changes may also be required. Installation of the panels does not always mean the retailer and meter process is complete, so the expected sequence should be clear in advance.
Your home needs to be accessible on installation day
The installation team usually needs safe access to the roof, switchboard, meter and proposed inverter or battery location. Vehicles, gates, pets and stored items may need to be moved before work begins.
Power may be switched off for part of the installation. The installer should tell you what to expect, whether someone needs to be present and how long the work is likely to take for the agreed scope.
Weather, roof conditions or unexpected electrical issues can affect timing. Any change to the design or price should be explained before additional work proceeds.
The team installs, tests and commissions the system
The installers fit the mounting equipment and panels, run the required cabling, install the inverter and complete the electrical connection. Battery and backup equipment are added where included in the design.
Before handover, the system should be tested and commissioned. The installer should confirm that the equipment is operating, safety requirements have been met and monitoring is connected.
Handover should explain what happens next
You should receive the relevant system documents, model details, warranties, shutdown information and support contacts. The team should also show you how to access monitoring and what normal operation looks like.
If meter or retailer work is still outstanding, the handover should explain who is responsible and when the system can export or operate fully.
